Good morning
Police are reminding everyone to stay vigilant and speak with children and vulnerable family members about staying safe around strangers.
While most people have good intentions, it's important to be aware of potential risks and know what to do if approached by someone you do not know.
Safety Tips: Never go anywhere with a stranger, even if they seem friendly or offer gifts, treats, money, or help. Teach children that it is okay to say "No", move away, and seek help from a trusted adult if they feel uncomfortable. Avoid sharing personal information with strangers, both in person and online. If someone approaches you in a way that makes you feel unsafe, trust your instincts and leave the area. Stay in well-lit, populated places whenever possible.
Parents and carers should know where children are, who they are with, and when they are expected home. Online Stranger Danger Not all strangers are met face-to-face. Remind children and young people: Never share personal information, photos, or locations with people they only know online. Do not agree to meet someone they have met through social media, gaming platforms, or messaging apps. Tell a trusted adult if an online conversation makes them feel uncomfortable.
If You Are Concerned If you witness suspicious behaviour or believe someone may be at risk, report it to the police. In an emergency, where there is an immediate threat to life or safety, always call 999.
By staying aware, talking openly about personal safety, and looking out for one another, we can help keep our communities safe.
